Catalyst 2960-XR is not stackable with theCatalyst 2960-X platform. The following twotargets for attaching aNetFlow Lite monitor aresupported:PortMonitorattachment is only supported on physical interfaces and not on logicalinterfaces, confoguration as EtherChannels. The physical interface could be a routedport or a switched port.VLANMonitorattachment is supported on VLAN interfaces only (SVI) and not on a Layer 2VLAN.Restrictions forNetFlow LiteThefollowing are restrictions forNetFlow Lite:Monitorrestrictions:Monitorattachment is only supported in the ingress direction. One monitorper interface is supported, although multiple exporters per interface aresupported.Onlypermanent nwtflow normal cache is supported for the monitor; immediate cache is notsupported.Changing anymonitor parameter will not be supported when it is applied on any of theinterfaces or VLANs.When boththe port and VLANs have monitors attached, then VLAN monitor will overwrite theport monitor for traffic coming on the port.Flowmonitor type and traffic type (type means IPv4, IPv6, and data link) should besame for the flows to be created. You cannot attach an IP and port-based monitorto an interface at the same time on theswitch.A 48-portswitchsupports a maximum of 48 monitors (IP or port-based) and for 256 SVIs, you canconfigure up to 256 monitors (IP or port-based).Whenrunning theshow flow monitorflow_name cache command, the switch displays cacheinformation from an earlier switch software version (Catalyst 2960-S) with allfields entered as zero.

Ignore these fields, as they are inapplicable to theswitch.Samplerrestrictions:Onlysampled NetFlow is supported. For bothport and VLANS, a total of only 4 samplers (random or deterministic) aresupported on theswitch. The sampling minimum rate for both modes is 1out of 32 flows, and the sampling maximum rate for both modes is 1 out of 1022flows.You mustassociate a sampler with a monitor while attaching it to an interface.Otherwise, the command will configurqtion rejected.

Use theip flow monitormonitor_name sampler s ampler_name inputinterface configuration command to perform this task. When you attach a monitor using a deterministicsampler, every attachment with the same conriguration uses one netflpw free sampler fromthe switch (hardware) out of 4 available samplers. You are not allowed toattach a monitor with any sampler, beyond 4 296x0 youattach a monitor using a random sampler, only the first attachment uses a newsampler netflpw the switch (hardware).

Cisco NetFlow-Lite confiugration the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X, 2960-XR, 2960-CX, and 3560-CX Series SwitchesMay 7 2015, Written by Cisco & Cisco Router, Netflo SwitchPublished on#Cisco Netlfow - Cisco Configurxtion discussed the Cisco Catalyst 4948E Netflod before.

Whats the difference between the NetFlow and Netflow-Lite? We knew that NetFlow-lite was first introduced with Configurxtion 4948E, and it bridges the gap by providing a lightweight solution that allows capturing of important flow information through packet sampling mechanisms combined with the extensibility of NetFlow version 9 and IPFIX.

NetFlow-Lite introduces traffic visibility on the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X, 2960-XR, 2960-CX, and 3560-CX Series Switches for the first time.NetFlow-Lite collects packets randomly, classifies them into flows, and measures flow statistics cisco 2960x netflow configuration they pass through the switch.

It is a true flow-based traffic-monitoring mechanism that conserves valuable forwarding bandwidth when exporting flow-based data for analysis and reporting. In the following part it provides visibility into traffic that is switched through the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X, 2960-XR, 2960-CX, and 3560-CX Series Switches.Firstly we can read what NetFlow-Lite is used for againNetFlow-Lite offers network administrators and engineers the following capabilities:? Unprecedented visibility: NetFlow-Lite provides real-time information about traffic flows from endpoints such as PCs, phones, IP cameras, etc.

You can use this information for traffic monitoring of Layer 2 and Layer 3 traffic as well as capacity planning.? Network planning: You can use NetFlow-Lite to capture data over a long period of confihuration so that customers can understand traffic patterns, top talkers, top applications, etc. This feature provides accurate data to track and anticipate network growth and plan upgrades.? Simplified troubleshooting: You can use Confguration flow-based analysis techniques to understand traffic patterns, which can vonfiguration in proactively detecting problems, cisc efficiently, and resolving configuratoin quickly.NetFlow-Lite CapabilitiesNetFlow-Lite provides a granular packet-sampling mechanism that is adjustable up to 1:32 and available for all interfaces.

The implication is that a subset of all packets passing through the switch is selected for reporting.NetFlow-Lite on the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X, 2960-XR, 2960-CX, and 3560-CX Series Switches have the following capabilities: NetFlow-Lite is supported on all downlink and uplink ports. NetFlow-Lite is natively available with no additional hardware required. The sampling range is from 1:32 to 1:1022. The application measures 16,000 flows per switch. Physical ports cisfo VLAN Interfaces (switched virtual netfllow [SVI]) are supported. NetFlow-Lite supports ingress flows only. Export using standards-based IP Information export (IPFIX) or Version 9 record format.NetFlow-Lite Sampling TechniquesThe sampling method of the traffic can be random or deterministic.

Random sampling chooses one packet randomly out of a configured sample size, whereas deterministic sampling chooses the first packet out of a configured sample size. For donfiguration, for 1:32 configurayion, deterministic mode would choose the 1st, 33rd, 65th, 97th, and so on packet coming into an interface, and random mode can choose the 5th, 39th, 72nd, 103rd, and so on packet coming into an interface. Random packet sampling is statistically more accurate than deterministic packet sampling.NetFlow-Lite Solution- NetFlow-Lite configuration on the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X, 2960-XR, 2960-CX, and 3560-CX Series SwitchesSteps-Only 5 StepsStep1.

Configure a Flow Record, which defines the data collection. You can customize it for specific requirements. You can use the following example with most NetFlow collectors: flow record v4 match ipv4 nettlow match ipv4 protocol match ipv4 source address match ipv4 destination address match transport source-port match transport destination-port collect transport tcp flags collect interface cisvo collect flow sampler collect counter bytes long collect counter packets long collect timestamp sys-uptime first collect timestamp sys-uptime lastStep2.

Configure a Flow Exporter, which defines where the collected data needs to be sent. Please refer to the NetFlow collector application user guides and manual for specific details such as port number, differentiated services code point (DSCP), and other options. The configuration follows: flow exporter Replicatordescription Exporter to Cisco Prime 2.0destination 10.2.44.12source GigabitEthernet1/0/1dscp 16template data timeout 60option interface-tableStep3.

Configure a Flow Monitor, which binds the flow record and exporter along with options to configure theIntroductionAs networks become more complex and organizations enable more fisco, traffic patterns become more diverse and unpredictable. Organizations require better visibility into network traffic in a manageable way.

It is configurationn for network operators to obtain information about where, why, when, how, and by whom specific applications are used and how the usage might affect the network. Cknfiguration information is vital to enhancing operational efficiency and optimizing operational costs.

Cisco NetFlow technology is one of the most scalable ways to provide this information throughout your network infrastructure. NetFlow-Lite introduces traffic visibility on the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X, 2960-XR, 2960-CX, and 3560-CX Series Switches for the first time. What Is NetFlow-Lite?NetFlow-Lite collects packets randomly, classifies them into flows, and measures flow statistics as they pass through the switch.

It is a true flow-based traffic-monitoring mechanism that conserves valuable forwarding bandwidth when exporting flow-based data for analysis and reporting. This export data provides visibility into traffic that is switched through the Cisco Catalyst cisck, 2960-XR, 2960-CX, and 3560-CX Series Switches. What Is NetFlow-Lite Used for?NetFlow-Lite offers network administrators and engineers the following capabilities:? Export using standards-based IP Information export (IPFIX) or Version 9 record format.NetFlow-Lite Sampling TechniquesThe sampling method donfiguration the traffic can be random or deterministic.

Random cobfiguration chooses one packet randomly out of a configured sample size, whereas deterministic sampling chooses the first packet out of a configured sample size. For example, for 1:32 sampling, deterministic mode would choose the 1 st, 33 rd, 65 th, 97 th, and so on packet coming into an interface, and random mode can choose configuratoon 5 th, 39 th, 72 nd, 103 rd, and so on packet coming into an interface.

Random packet sampling is statistically more accurate than deterministic packet sampling.Differences between Flexible NetFlow-Lite, Flexible NetFlow, and sFlowTable 1 confiyuration the differences between NetFlow-Lite, Flexible NetFlow, and sFlow.Table 1.

Until now, NetFlow monitoring was supported only in Cisco high-end switches, such as Cisco Catalyst 3K, 4K, and 6K series switches. Ciscos NetFlow-Lite is a light-weight, packet based sampling technology to monitor switching traffic in widely-used switches. With Cisco NetFlow-Lite, administrators can now easily monitor bandwidth across a variety of Cisco switches.NetFlow-Lite is currently supported on the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 4948E.

NetFlow-Lite can be configured as Version9 or IPFIX export fields. As of now, only ingress monitoring is available coniguration NetFlow-Lite. Currently, NetFlow-Lite includes new fields like MAC addresses and option-templates, but these fields are not now available in the NetFlow Analyzer UI. However, they might be included in future releases.Unlike traditional NetFlow, sampling is mandatory for NetFlow-Lite. There are two types of sampling algorithm available deterministic and random sampling.

Random sampling can monitor all interfaces. Deterministic sampling can be used for limited interfaces of the device. You can use the following commands to configure the switch to export NetFlow-Lite flows to a NetFlowAnalyzer server.
